Kilauea Eruption Updates videos… (I liked the first one)… “Kilauea’s Halema’uma’u Crater grows exponentially as theory behind explosions shifts”

[Kp update: I added one more video which shows how large the vent hole in Halema’uma’u has become.]

I particularly liked the first one (from KHON2), as it discusses how and why the crater (formerly called “vent”) in Halema’uma’u caldera (which is within the Kilauea caldera) is growing (from 12 acres a few weeks ago, to over 90 acres today!) and the walls caving in, due to the absence of lava holding up the walls. Apparently, the very same thing happened when Halema’uma’u caldera was formed in 1924. What a wonderful show (in my view, at least)! (and recall that usually I am taking images from the very edge of Kilauea caldera).

Scientists say with no lava to provide resistance, along with dozens of earthquakes every day at the summit, the walls of the crater are caving in.
