This adds to what was written in the King’s letter to the Governor and the letter to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. And you may want to take the quiz in this letter.

“…the University acknowledges that there are numerous stakeholders in the resolution of the issues surrounding Mauna Kea. While you tell the media that all stakeholders are involved in your discussions, the truth is that organizations and individuals, such as the King, working to complete the restoration of the Kingdom of Hawai’i are not invited into your deliberations. Neither are the practitioners of the Hawaiian faith.

“Obviously, your refusal to include those standing for the restored Kingdom in your discussions of how the Crown lands of Mauna Kea can or cannot be used is simply your refusing to acknowledge that the answer to all the questions posed above is “true” and that the conclusions reached above are also true. Engaging in denial is not usually considered an appropriate approach academically.

“the University has shown a reprehensible lack of respect for the traditional faith of the Hawaiian people. You say all the right things in your educational center about how sacred the mountain is and then turn around and treat the mountain as a thing to be exploited, rather than a holy site to be protected with very limited access.”

“Attached is a letter I sent this morning to President Lassner at the University of Hawai’i. We cannot achieve any lasting resolution of the Mauna Kea controversy until the real issues are acknowledged and all stakeholders are participating in the discussion. Right now, that is not the case. The letter to the President references two other letters that were distributed earlier — the letter to the Governor and the letter to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.”
