Kingdom of Hawai’i Blog… Ali`i Mana`o Nui Lanny Sinkin, 4-10-15… “Letter to the First Lady”

First Lady Michelle Obama has been talking about taking care of Native American rights, and apparently attempting to correct many of the “wrongs” done to them. However, even with all that is happening at Mauna Kea, it seems she has omitted any mention of native Hawaiian rights, the Kingdom of Hawai’i, and correcting the “wrongs” committed against them (read her full address to Native American youth here).

Ali`i Mana`o Nui Lanny Sinkin wrote this letter to First Lady Michelle Obama, noting her remarks about “how the United States stripped Native Americans of their culture and religion.” He points out:

“…we are in the middle of a major controversy in Hawai’i over the construction of a huge telescope on the sacred mountain of Mauna Kea. This controversy surfaced a long-standing issue of religious and cultural suppression in Hawai’i.“

Included in the package sent to First Lady Obama were the Temple of Lono document, and related AMN cover letter.
