Well, despite many who were pointing to the possibility that the Electoral College results would somehow not be certified by Congress, they were. There were some objections to state tallies, some of course said “Russia hacked it”, I’m sure it’s possible a few said that “the Blue Avians stole the election”, or perhaps “Well, there’s snow on Mauna Kea in Hawaii so we can’t certify anything!”. In any event, I post three articles and a couple highlights from each.
I posted a couple articles about the electoral college counts for the 2016 US Presidential election, here’s the results one and here’s one that shows the fascinating synchonicities of final Trump numbers. Some may wish to take a look at those.
U.S. Congress certifies Trump’s Electoral College victory (Reuters 1-6-17)
” The U.S. Congress on Friday certified the Electoral College vote that gave Republican Donald Trump his victory in the contentious 2016 presidential election after a raucous half-hour joint session punctuated by Democratic challenges… The electoral votes were opened before a joint session of Congress in what is considered a formality for most presidential elections.
“Members of the House of Representatives objected to the electoral tally in states including Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Texas, Mississippi and the Carolinas in a symbolic move that exposed lingering dismay over a contentious election campaign.
“Biden denied the objections one by one, at times jocular and apparently determined to finish the tally. “It is over,” he said at one point, to laughter from Republicans. None of the representatives had the backing of a senator, which would have allowed them to suspend the joint session and allow the House and Senate to meet separately to debate the objections.”
‘It’s over’: Desperate protests in Congress fail to prevent Trump presidency (RT 1-7-17)
“In a last ditch effort to invalidate Trump’s victory, 10 US representatives objected to the House’s certification, but failed to convince any senators to join them. As a result, the Electoral College results were confirmed.
“Citing voter suppression, stifled recount efforts, and Russian meddling, House Democrats attempted to challenge Trump’s victory on Friday. The effort was short-lived and unsuccessful, prompting Vice President Joe Biden to declare, “It is over” after a House member’s failed objection.
“Outside, protesters also tried but failed. Shouting slogans such as, “the commander in chief is a threat to American democracy” while others raised objection to voter suppression. The protesters were later removed and charged with disrupting Congress…”
Congress certifies Trump’s victory as protests fail (USA Today 1-6-17)
“Congress certified the election of Donald Trump and Mike Pence as president and vice president during a joint session Friday afternoon.
“Trump, tweeting before the session on Friday morning, wrote that Hillary Clinton and the Democrats were “never going to beat the PASSION of my voters… THEY SAW A MOVEMENT LIKE NEVER BEFORE,” he wrote in all capital letters.”
