[Kp note: Enlist Duo is actually a product of Dow AgroSciences, not Monsanto.]
What? Monsanto laying off employees” And the EPA actually revoking approval for something?
My question is, why would anyone even conceive of approving a combination of two things as toxic as glyphosate (Round Up) and 2,4-D, the active ingredient in Agent Orange? These corporations are criminal, and they will be “booted out”, at the very least, by people refusing to accept their “crap” arguments for GMOs and pesticides.
“Those opposed to GM agriculture in favor of healthy, organic food have a lot to celebrate as we enter the new year. It’s just been announced that Monsanto plans to eliminate another 1,000 jobs, in addition to the 2,600 it slashed last fall, resulting in a 16 percent decrease in its total workforce.
“…over the past couple of years, things have begun to change. Through the unflagging efforts of the worldwide anti-GMO movement, public awareness increased and millions of ordinary people began to voice their opposition to the GM agricultural industry – joining forces with the environmental activists, objective scientists, organic farmers and others who had been fighting against the Frankenfood industry all along… many countries began outlawing or restricting GMO cultivation, and demand for GM crops began to drop, resulting in losses of hundreds of millions of dollars in profits for Monsanto in the 2015 financial year.
“As Monsanto continues to lose favor worldwide, resulting in plummeting profits, the organic food industry continues to expand. Growing awareness of their health benefits, combined with increased availability, has given a boost to the sales of organic foods, which are grown without the use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers.”
“In a victory for organic advocates and health-conscious individuals everywhere, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said it plans to revoke its previous registration of the herbicide Enlist Duo, which contains a dangerous combination of glyphosate and 2,4-D.
“Glyphosate, you’ll recall, was deemed “probably carcinogenic to humans,” in an International Agency for Research on Cancer report last year. It’s considered to be a cancer-causing chemical linked to everything from infertility and birth defects, to Parkinson’s disease and destruction of the nervous system. As for 2,4-D, it’s the main ingredient in Agent Orange, which was used in Vietnam and led to 400,000 deaths and 500,000 more people being born with birth defects. There’s nothing good about these chemicals, period.
“That’s why the EPA’s latest reversal decision is a welcome, albeit long-overdue, one. A year after its approval in late 2014, the EPA noted that Enlist Duo is more harmful than initially thought.”
