Lanny Sinkin Comments (9-13-15) on the Upcoming Na’i Aupuni ‘Aha (convention)

lanny_sinkin_headshot_FB_5Lanny Sinkin posted this on his Facebook page. I have linked to Na’i Aupuni and OHA, below.

In my view, Lanny has presented the salient facts clearly and expertly.

Funny thing is, prior to this, I noted that Mauna Kea protectors Ku Ching, Lanakila Mangauil, and now Professor Williamson Chang, have all decided to run for delegate to the Na’i Aupuni ‘Aha. Apparently the three linked above see this as an opportunity to “infiltrate” the Na’i Aupuni process, and discover what is really going on.

I personally do not see this ‘Aha (convention) and this whole process as working. In my view, the Kingdom of Hawai’i is, and therefore should be brought back to essentially the place where it was in 1864. Only that will heal the wounds of the people and their ancestors, and correct the grand hewa (wrong) which occurred in 1893, and through to this day. Then “the people” can choose where to go from there.

Here was my comment to Lanakila’s FB post:

“The bottom line is [Lanakila], as you know, to follow your kuleana.

“The motto “Deceive, Divide, and Conquer” applies to all of this.
I do not see anything positive that will come from any
Kana’iolowalu or Na’i Aupuni, or any race-based attempts to “bring Hawaiians their own government”. I see it all as another attempt to re-colonize Hawaii, under the “State”/Fed hand (or fist).

“Suggest informing yourself with this document from Native American activist Pearl Means.”

My highlights from Lanny’s post.

“Kau Inoa was the first creation of a roll of potential Hawaiian voters… OHA was clearly promoting the nation-within-a-nation… Na’i Aupuni [another OHA creation] thus begins with an electorate heavily weighted toward nation-within-a-nation and against the Kingdom.

“Reaching 21 delegates [out of 40, a majority] will require convincing lots of people who are not signed up to now do so, even though we have campaigned consistently that the OHA process is not legitimate and amounts to treason against the Kingdom.

OHA and the State are trying to extinguish the Kingdom by dividing off the people of Hawaiian ancestry to get a semi-independent government… dominated by the U.S Department of Interior. Participation in the Na’i Aupuni process by those favoring restoration of the Kingdom will legitimize the process.”

To those thinking about participating in the “election” being sponsored by the State of Hawai’i through the STATE Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) down to Na’i Aupuni, here is what we know.

(1) The process that is now called Na’i Aupuni originated in OHA and the State of Hawai’i

(2) Kau Inoa was the first creation of a roll of potential Hawaiian voters.

(3) At that time, OHA was clearly promoting (and spending millions of dollars promoting) the nation-within-a-nation, like Native Americans on a reservation for “Native Hawaiians.”

(4) Those who signed up knew the goal of OHA was nation-within-a-nation

(5) When signatures were gathered for the next attempt to generate a roll — Kanai’iolwalu — OHA was still promoting nation-within-a-nation.

(6) A reasonable conclusion would be that a very large percentage of those signing up with OHA agreed with the nation-within-a-nation and did not support restoration of the Kingdom; similarly those supporting restoration of the Kingdom would not have signed up on the OHA rolls.

(7) Na’i Aupuni thus begins with an electorate heavily weighted toward nation-within-a-nation and against the Kingdom.

(8) I consider it highly unlikely that such an electorate will elect 21 convention delegates (majority of 40) who favor restoration of the Kingdom.

(9) Reaching 21 delegates will require convincing lots of people who are not signed up to now do so, even though we have campaigned consistently that the OHA process is not legitimate and amounts to treason against the Kingdom.

(10) OHA and the State are trying to extinguish the Kingdom by dividing off the people of Hawaiian ancestry to get a semi-independent government that will be dominated by the U.S Department of Interior.

(11) Participation in the Na’i Aupuni process by those favoring restoration of the Kingdom will legitimize the process.

(12) If the Kingdom supporters fail to elect a majority and the majority votes for nation-within-a-nation, then opposing that resolution will give the appearance of being simply sore losers in a process that our participation legitimized.
