There are many “key” statements I see in here, a primary one (in my mind) being this:
“Quasi-sovereignty is what the First Nations of America have. Self-rule under federal supervision is not sovereignty. When you stand on your legal lawful rights, it is irresponsible to compromise your rightful position. The moment The Kingdom of Hawai’i begins negotiating their rights they will have immediately lost those rights. Politics is the art of compromise, where true Leadership is based on principles.”
In light of the State of Hawaii attempts, via OHA, Kana’iolowalu, Ka Na‘i Aupuni, to “rebuild a Hawaiian nation”, to give a “nation-in-nation” status for “Hawaiians”, this is a very significant message, from a very significant person in the field of indigenous rights.
This may be something many of you will want to read, in detail. Here’s some more highlights.
“How the Kingdom of Hawai’i was stolen, parallels my history. Ginger Hills, Navajo wrote: “They came with the Bible in one hand and the gun in the other. First they stole gold. Then they stole the land. Then they stole our souls.”
“I have been following Ali`i Nui Mo’i King Edmund Keli’i Silva, Jr. and the Kingdom of Hawai’i’s legal strategies and documents they have put forth regarding their ongoing work toward restoring and repairing the Kingdom of Hawai’i… I see the bigger picture and the brilliant legal position Ali`i Nui Mo’i King Edmund Keli’i Silva, Jr. is taking to push the sovereignty issue. He is taking this opportunity to get into the Invader’s court to address the larger issue at hand. This is a logical next step in restoration of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Brilliant!
“[Russell Means] ingenious strategy was a way to introduce the Treaties, which their legal counsel couldn’t do, but they could as non-lawyers… in 2008, when Russell called the media to alert them he was going fishing in the Lakota holy land, the Black Hills and just happened to mention he would not be carrying the “Oppressor’s” state fishing license… he would be given a citation, but this would get him into court where he could pursue the Lakota’s 1868 Fort Laramie’s Treaty, the right to license, travel, fish and hunt, what an unencumbered strategy.
“Ali`i Nui Mo’i King Edmund Keli’i Silva, Jr. of the Kingdom of Hawai’i is taking the opportunity to get into the Invader’s court with the larger issue of Jurisdiction and Hawaiian Sovereignty… offering him the perfect opportunity to address the real issue, Independence. As head of state, the King of the Kingdom of Hawai’i has the legal right and the responsibility to protect their sacred mountain, lands and the Kingdom’s citizens. Effective leaders are innovative forward thinkers.
“Should the United States Government attempt to negotiate a “Nation within a Nation” status with the Kingdom of Hawai’i, take note of what has happened to the First Nations Peoples of America. Quasi-sovereignty is what the First Nations of America have. Self-rule under federal supervision is not sovereignty. When you stand on your legal lawful rights, it is irresponsible to compromise your rightful position.
“I leave you with a sacred prayer we Dineh People offer as a gift, inspiration to the King, Ali’i Nui Mo’i Edmund Keli’i Silva, Jr., and all my brothers and sisters of Hawai’i that are fighting with Kapu Aloha for their sacred mountain, Mauna a Wākea and their independence…. ‘Oh, Woman who walks in beauty like the night, I am a friend who is distant and silent. I will care for you always.'”
