This Christmas Day is like every other day to me.
A holiday. The joy I feel as I travel along this ascension path, moment by moment, is there within me always. Each day is truly a holiday.
And most anyone who has “grown up” from childhood in the United States (mine was in the Midwest), has been treated to the multitude of “fun” things around this holiday day. Especially from the northern Midwest, I was also blessed with snow, snowmen, snow caves, fresh picked pine trees in the house, lights all over the inside and the outside of the house, packages laid out under the tree after going to bed and there were NONE. And ice… ice skates… skating on ponds fresh frozen, sheen of crystal plane of un-skated-on ice. And to be the first one to step on the ice, and hear the crunch and then the cracking as it settled, and to be the first one to stop sideways with your skates and be the first one to 
spray snow shavings into the air…
But I could do that almost any day of the winter when I lived there…
I can’t do those things in Hawaii. All I can do here is put on my surf shorts, drive to one of the many sandy beaches here and go out and body surf or boogie board in 5-10 foot waves. Or dive off a black lava point of rock into a crystal clear turquoise blue ocean, seeing bright orange and black and red and multi-colored fish of a thousand kind
. Sometimes the dolphins will join, or a whale or two or ten, and breaching and tail splashing going on all over. Or walk down the path to Pololu Valley to the black sand beach below and swing from one of the many rope swings hanging from the trees. Or maybe drive to Volcano National Park and walk on the steam venting floor of Kilauea, through the rain forested area of Kilauea ‘Iki and hear the apapane and i’iwi birds.
But I can do that almost any day over here…
We may all love our “holidays”, and the recollections that are a part of them. But…
Joy needs no holiday. Joy is its own holiday.
Be in joy with your holiday. This moment. Right now.
